Held a meeting of the cross-sectoral working group

A constitutive meeting of the Intersectoral Working Group for the Improvement of Secondary Vocational and Adult Education in accordance with the needs of the labor market of Zenica-Doboj Canton was held at the Hotel Termag, Jahorina.

The meeting was attended by representatives of partner organizations and institutions from Zenica-Doboj Canton (hereafter: ZDC): ZDC Chamber of Commerce, ZDC Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, ZDC Ministry of Labor, Social Policy and Refugees, ZDC Ministry of Finance, Pedagogical Institute Zenica, Public Employment Service ZDC, Aktiv of Directors of Secondary Schools ZDC, Council for Adult Education ZDC; and our representatives of partners and companies from Sarajevo: dmb consulting d.o.o., CREDI (Center for Development Evaluations and Social Research), proMENTE Social Research, DIZART, and the sister project MarketMakers, implemented by Helvetas BiH.

On the first day, after the introductory words of the representatives of the project implementing in Zenica-Doboj Canton, the legal framework for conducting practical classes in business entities was discussed, as well as the challenges faced by high schools and companies in the Canton; adult education and the roles and challenges of schools and companies as training organizers; and in general about the data and results that are the basis for planning, which in this case include the analysis and forecasting of employers’ needs for knowledge, skills, and abilities, and research of career counseling.

On the second day, participants discussed the next steps and the need to expand the group to additional stakeholders and institutions. “After we created concrete preconditions – legal preconditions for conducting practical classes outside the school, we again need other actors to improve it, such as the Ministry of Labor, Social Policy and Refugees, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy, the ZDK Chamber of Commerce, and all this with the support of the Foundation Helvetas Moja Budućnost,” said Ms. Bernadeta Galijašević, Assistant of the Minister for Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Zenica-Doboj Canton.

As one of the most important participants and co-organizers of this meeting, Ms. Diana Babić, Director of the Chamber of Commerce of Zenica-Doboj Canton, pointed out that she considers this meeting a historic initiative of all participants. “This initiative with these actors will certainly necessarily result in success if we focus on the changes we can achieve and which we will be proud of in the end.”
